After repeated postponements in 2021, “No Time to Die” finally reached the screens — the film that marked the end of Craig’s Bond film. The film was greeted coolly by both viewers and critics. Some criticized the film for repeating itself, others did not like the inexpressive main villain played by Rami Malek, but personally I liked it. At the Oscars, the film takes the statuette for “Best Song” and disappears from the radar. The Internet is already trying out a tuxedo on Henry Cavill because, as they say, in the end credits “James Bond will return”. All that remains is to wait for the official news about the new round of the franchise and watch how the Witcher of the people saves the world from a new threat.
But what if I say that Bond has already entered a new circle, and she did it 3 weeks BEFORE the release of the 27th James Bond film. As any good story about a famous spy should, it all starts with the title song
So that everything that happens next is not perceived as pure SRSG, you need to make a small digression. The game’s creators, Dinga Bakaba and Sebastian Mitton, have repeatedly mentioned in interviews that they took inspiration from the movies. When creating characters and developing dialogues, they were guided by Tarantino films. And certain design solutions were seen in famous and not so famous films. But for me, the biggest influence was the classic James Bond films. The legacy of Goldfinger, Thunderball or You Only Live Twice can be found in completely different gaming aspects. I want to devote today’s material to analyzing the influence of Bond on Deathloop. What the game took over from films, and whether Deathloop can be called a worthy heir to one of the most famous film franchises? And also make short stops to pay tribute to the films that also left their mark on the game.
To compare games with films, we will stick to five basic questions: What? Where? How? Who? And why?
Pour yourself a vodka martini, shake, but don’t mix. We’re starting.
WHAT? Plot
What is the plot of a https://paradise8casino.co.uk/ typical James Bond film?? Most often, this is a story about a charismatic secret agent who, in the most pathetic way, saves the world from villains who want to destroy it. In this he is helped by spy gadgets, professional combat training and a faithful iron horse. Everything should happen in the most picturesque places on the planet and always with a beautiful girl, and preferably with several. The villain must have plans of Napoleonic proportions, be it the destruction of the Earth, the outbreak of a third world war for the purpose of profit, a dangerous business, revenge on the intelligence services, or a banal vendetta with the main character. He is supposed to live on an island, in a secret bunker or in a base in the mouth of a volcano, or better yet, all at once. Bond ingratiates himself with the leaders of the villain, finds out his plans, risks himself and emerges victorious. The film is finished, wait for a new one in a year. And so 27 times in a row.
What do we have in the game?? An agent in Her Majesty’s service has changed his skin color and name. Now, instead of Bond we have Colt. And the famous number 007 is lost somewhere. The main character wakes up on a picturesque and isolated island with amnesia. A banal but obvious way to restart the franchise. Not only does he not remember anything, but it also turns out that the entire island is in a time loop, and after each death or after 24 hours everything starts over again. Colt is being hunted by Julianne, who for some reason wants to kill him. And the island is run by 8 Ideologists, without killing whom it is impossible to break the loop. To move around the island, Colt uses a very spy radio transmitter that allows him to hack electronics from a distance, and a tunnel system. This time the special agent will do without his beloved Aston Martin. According to the plot, it turns out that Colt is the head of the security, a trained soldier, a real killing machine, he went against his colleagues and now seeks to break the loop. Because of this, Julianne tries to stop him. With the same success, the main character could forget that he is a special agent in the service of the Queen or the CIA, as was the case in the very first films.
Each of the 8 ideologists has their own motivation: someone is about to make a scientific breakthrough, someone surrendered to creativity, and someone drowned in hedonism and unpunished cruelty. All of them are creators of the new “free” world. Each of them has its own character and characteristics. But the only thing that distinguishes them from the antagonists of Bond films is that they do not pose a danger to the rest of the world. While Blofeld, perhaps 007’s most famous adversary, could blackmail the entire world with two stolen atomic bombs, no ideologue wants to destroy the world, crash company stocks, make the US gold reserve radioactive. Even Colt’s vendetta is with only one character — Julianna. And then, only partly.
Could such a scenario take root in a new film?? I think yes. The hackneyed plots are one of the main problems of the Bond film. They only wanted to organize a third world war 5 times. Why not make a story where James Bond is in a hostage situation?? Even though it’s fantastic. Space battles were able to be realized in “Moonraker”? And the concept of “Groundhog Day” would be a great refresher for the franchise. If we take into account the "James Bond Returns" sign at the end of each film, then the time loop theory is not so far from the truth.
I say “YES” to this concept, because most of the key factors are met. Let’s move on.
WHERE? Locations
If there is some super-beautiful place on the planet, then most likely it was featured in a Bond film. Over its sixty-year history, 007 agents have traveled the entire globe: from snow-capped mountain peaks to paradise islands from the Bounty advertisement, from the depths of the sea to outer space.
The main prototype of the Black Reef — the main location of the game — was the Faroe Islands — an archipelago consisting of 18 volcanic islands surrounded by the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Sheer cliffs of black volcanic stone give way to spacious plains of orange and green grass.
Do you know what else happened in the Faroe Islands?? Set in the latest James Bond film.
